Sealing your ducts to prevent leaks is even more important if the ducts are located in an unconditioned area such as an attic or vented crawl space. If the supply ducts are leaking, heated or cooled air can be forced out unsealed joints and lost. In addition unconditioned air can also be drawn into return ducts through unsealed joints. In the summer hot air can be drawn in increasing the load on the air conditioner. In the winter, your furnace will have to work longer to keep your house comfortable.

Your energy losses from unsealed ductwork cost you money. Let us inspect your ductwork and start saving you money.

Air Star has some important information for all home owners about facts on insulation from the Dept. of Energy for you to read.

Why Insulate Your Home?

Heating and cooling account for 50% to 70% of the energy used in the average American home. Inadequate insulation and air leakage are leading causes of energy waste in most homes.

Insulation:

  • 1) Saves money

  • 2) Saves our nation's limited energy resources

  • 3) Makes your house more comfortable

  • 4) Maintains a uniform temperature throughout the house

  • 5) Makes walls, ceilings, and floors warmer in winter and cooler summer.

The amount of energy you conserve will depend on several factors: your local climate; the size, shape and construction of your house; the living habits of your family; the type and efficiency of the heating and cooling systems; and the fuel you use. Once the energy savings have paid for the installation cost, energy conserved is money saved and saving energy will be even more important as utility rates go up

How Insulation Works:

Heat flows naturally from a warmer to a cooler space. In winter, the heat moves directly from all heated living spaces to the out doors and to adjacent unheated attics and garages wherever there is a difference in temperature. During the summer, heat moves from outdoors to the house interior. To maintain comfort, the heat lost in winter must be replaced by your heating system and the heat gained in summer must be removed by your air conditioner. Insulating ceilings, walls, and floors decreases the heating or cooling needed by providing an effective resistance to the flow of heat.

The information you just read about insulation hopefully is not to over whelming. If you think you are one of those homeowners losing a lot of energy and money because of improper insulation. Then we have the solution.

Allow us to do a complete inspection on your insulation to help you start saving energy and put money back into your pocket.

Do you or a family member suffer from allergies? If so, Do not feel bad. San Antonio is ranked in the top 5 cities with the amount of allergy medicines purchased over the counter and prescribed. Air Star comfort consultant's technicians will provide you with solutions to improve your indoor air and reduce the air borne particulates by as much as 99.8%.

Amount of Ventilation

If too little outdoor air enters a home, pollutants can accumulate to levels that can pose health and comfort problems. Unless they are built with special mechanical means of ventilation, homes that are designed and constructed to minimize the amount of outdoor air that can "leak" into and out to the home may have higher pollutant levels than other homes.

What Causes Indoor Air Problems?

Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor pollutant levels by not bringing in enough outdoor air to dilute emissions from indoor sources and by not carrying indoor air pollutants out of the home High temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of some pollutants

How Effective are Air Cleaners in Reducing Pollutant Concentrations Indoor?

The effectiveness of air cleaners in removing pollutants from the air depends on both the efficiency of the device itself (e.g., the percentage of the pollutant removed as it goes through the device) and the amount of air handled by the device. For example, a filter may remove 99% of the pollutant in the air that passes through it, but if the air flow rate is only 10cubic feet per minute (cfm), it will take a long time to process the air in a typical room of 1000 cubic feet.

What types of Air Cleaners are Available?
There are different types of air cleaners to choose from such as mechanical filters or electronic air cleaners. Our comfort consultant technicians have had training to identify which air filtration system will work best for you and your family.

Air Star is ready to serve you and your family with any deficiencies related to your indoor air quality or air flow.
